Game Types are families of games that are categorized in accordance with the main component that drives the game.
Board Games: a game that utilizes a fixed, non-variable board as its main component. All players share the board, using various elements and areas upon it to interact directly, or indirectly, with one another.
Card Games: the main component in these types of games are cards. A card game may make use of a small personal board or tableau in front of each player for resource or victory point counting. It can even utilize dice and tokens, but it is the cards used that primarily drive the game’s system.
Dice Games: the main component in these games are various types of dice, be they 4-sided, the typical 6-sided, 8-sided, 10-sided, 12-sided or 20-sided dice. Such games tend to involve a lot of chance and luck since it is each die roll that will determine the outcome of the players’ future actions.
Tile Games: a game that uses numerous tiles to represent its playing area or the ‘board’ in which the players interact. Such games are considered variable because every time they are played, the location of the tiles change, giving the game a high replay-ability value. Unlike traditional board games, which have fixed boards, tile games are endlessly changeable.
Miniatures Games: a game that uses plastic or metal miniatures as the key components to set the scene for gameplay. These miniatures are manipulated on a table, a mat or a game board, and are representative of the players themselves or armies they control. Some of these games may be collectible where players choose to buy more individual miniature pieces to increase the size or customize their army, while others have numerous miniatures in the game box itself, ready to be played with.
Role-Playing Games: a game in which players assume the roles of characters in a fictional setting. Players determine the actions of their characters based on their characterization, and the actions succeed or fail according to a set formal system of rules and guidelines. Within the rules, players have the freedom to improvise; their choices shape the direction and outcome of the game.
